sweeney joins us live. >> reporter: we two a chance to talk to a very shaken father you can understand why when you consider a truck pick-up truck comes plowing through, you can see where i knocked didn't the fence, you can see the cardboard over the window that it went through. when it went through that window it went into the crib of 2-year-old nahla robbins. this happened 3:30 this morning. pick-up truck coming along, doesn't show a lot of signs of breaking, slams through the fence, through the wall knocks nahla on to the floor her father runs in sees his child lying there. this is how he tried to express how he felt. >> shocked right now. if something happened to my kid, i don't know how i would react, sorry man. >> reporter: understandably moved beyond words. as for the person that slammed into the wall, he tried to drive away. neighbors were having none of that they stopped him. police are glad they did, of course. now they are looking into the possibility that he is going to be hit with a drunk driving. as for nahla she was taken to the hospital. her father picked her up, looked at her,
and for us -- and asked us if we had heard anything or seen anything. >> police said the victim had been shot, but now they say the coroner is leaning toward a stab wound. an autopsy will have the exact cause of debt. the victim has not been identified and there are no arrests. there have not been this many homicides homicides homicides in san jose in more than 20 years. abc7 news. >> john, thank you. five people are in custody tonight for the violent attack on two people found bound and gaged in the middle of the street. the victims were found on brussels street in san francisco on sunday. that's the visitation valley neighborhood. the man died on the way to the hospital tonight. the woman remains in critical condition. police arrested five people today and two were booked for murder and three women were arrested for accessories to murder. all seven people knew one another, but they have not said what lead to this violent attack. >>> a lawyer for john mcafee has ordered his released from a go tau mall 11 -- guatemalan detention center. it make take awhile before the mogul actually leaves. he
that door, so we thought he had followed us down there and then we let her in and she said she saw a guy laying there dead with a gun beside him and we heard a gunshot before that. >> reporter: for law enforcement, a nightmare scenario. a shooting rampage in a mall packed with christmas shoppers. and because it was late afternoon, there were dozens of kids there hoping to see santa and there were also reports that there was a christmas concert under way right in the vicinity of the shooting. >> the idea that you can walk into a mall or any other location, a movie theater and shoot people is very intoxicating for these people, and they'd love to be able to control life and death. >> reporter: authorities have so far not identified the shooter or discussed any possible motive, but this incident now joins a grizzly list of other senseless shootings. this year alone, 12 people killed, 58 wounded at this aurora, colorado, movieplex in july. six people called at this wisconsin sikh temple. now add to that this shopping mall. >> i believe people will be more reticent to go to a mall just becaus

[ sirens ] >> reporter: chaos inside a suburban portland mall, as a gunman opened fire on holiday shoppers. >> all of a sudden, we heard a big bang. we covered our ears and we got down. and then, all of a sudden, a matter of five seconds later, we heard rapid fire, bang, bang, bang, bang. and i just took off running. >> reporter: the shots were heard throughout the shopping center. >> it was really loud. and it continued, like 20 times.
throughout the evening on abc 7 news at 9:00 and 11:00. >> stay with us and there is breaking news tonight. a baerkly man is recovering after finding three people burglarized in his home. this burglary ways talking about happened in the hills on farallon drive. he got back from walking his dog, he confronted the burglaries and took a beating and even womplts allen, how badly injured is he?#n"ól i just lost you. i'm going to talk. his leg was runnover by the suspect and i drove on the crime scene. i'm told the victim walked in on the burglars inside of the house. and surprised them in his house. here is what it looked like, shortly after he confronted them, neighbors quickly came out and wrapped the man in a blanket. he called 911 and he says he yelled out. the two men and a woman ran out of the house, one punched him in the face several times. the victim tried to stop them. they drove away. here is what he told police. >> they hit me, then, when pulling forward, they ran over my leg. >> i'm going to talk right now. i lost you. dan. but the faibs say the two suspects drove off with another
to such a random act of violence? george? >> thanks, neal. >>> and joining us now, sheriff craig roberts of the clackamas county sheriff's department. sheriff, thank you for joining us this morning. have you been able to identify the shooter overnight? >> we have been able to identify the shooter over this last night. >> what can you tell us about him? >> we're not able to release the name of the individual at this point in time. and for the reason being, that we don't want to jeopardize the investigation. >> what more can you tell us about his motive? >> right now, we're still in the preliminary part of our investigation. and so, there's much to learn. and so, at this point in time, to speculate on a motive is really premature at this time. >> but, do you have any idea if the gunman was going after specific victims? knew who he was going after? or if this was some kind of a random rampage? >> it really was a killing of total strangers, to my knowledge, at this point in time. and it was really, i think, trying to kill as many people as possible. >> and he would have killed far more had h

hospital. a source tells us suspects were brought in to the hall of justice yesterday after investigators received leads from the public. they were later arrested in a house in the early morning hours. police spokesman says everyone involved knew each other. >> there was an extensive relationship between the victims and the suspect in this case. i cannot get into details about the relationship. >> investigators are still looking at a motive. a source tells us the female victim was known to be they're trying to find out if victims were from out of town. so that is one issue, one motive that they are looking at. issues involved with prostitution among many others. we know now, tonight that the male victim, a 26-year-old was shot, he was also beaten with a blunt instrument. and the female teen-aged vil victim was beaten but was not shot. yesterday, doctors told us she had life threatening injuries today. they're telling us she's likely to survive. abc 7 news. and after being run over by three people bloorizing his home, he was out walking his dog about 3:00 this afternoon. he got back and he
